What is the aim of the course?
Our specification enables a variety of teaching and learning approaches. This exciting and relevant course studies geography in a balanced framework of physical and human themes and investigates the link between them.
What will you study in this subject?
Course Content: Unit 1: Living with the physical environment: Students will be assessed on the challenge of natural hazards, the living world, and the physical landscapes in the UK. This unit is worth 35% of the entire GCSE.
Unit 2: Challenges in the human environment: Students will be assessed on urban issues and challenges, the changing economic world and the challenge of resource management. This unit is worth 35% of the entire GCSE.
Unit 3: Geographical applications:Students will practice primary and secondary data collection and interpretation. The information collected will form the basis of the answers given in this unit. This unit is worth 30% of the entire GCSE.
How is your work assessed?
This is a two year linear course. All exams will be taken at the end of year 11. There will be three exams, Living with the physical environment 35%, Challenges in the human environment 35% and Geographical applications 30%. Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG) is also assessed in all GCSE Geography specifications.
