Religious Studies

Examination Board: AQA

All pupils will study GCSE Religious Studies at Key Stage 4. Religious Studies is an integral subject to promoting the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils. The subject develops thinking skills, evaluation and critical thinking.

The examination is based on two exam papers of 1hr 45minutes. Pupils will learn from and learn about world religions. They will understand the diversity of faiths in Britain and how this contributes to the multicultural fabric. Pupils will study contemporary thematic issues such as Relationships, War and Peace, Human Rights and Justice and Issues of morality. Students will learn how religion, philosophy and ethics form the basis of our culture, and develop valuable skills that will help prepare them for further study.

We have a fully staffed department of trained Subject specialists to ensure pupils make maximum progress.

Students must take assessments in the following two components in the same series:

Component 1: The study of religions: beliefs, teachings and practices

Component 2: Thematic studies

How it's assessed

Written exam: 1 hour 45 minutes

96 marks (plus 5 marks for Spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG)

50% of GCSE

Religious, philosophical and ethical studies themes:

Theme A: Relationships and families.

Theme B: Religion and life.

Theme C: The existence of God and revelation.

Theme D: Religion, peace and conflict.

Theme E: Religion, crime and punishment.

Theme F: Religion, human rights and social justice.

Written exam: 1 hour 45 minutes

96 marks (plus 5 marks for Spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG)

50% of GCSE
